REFLECTION FOR WEEK 7

On the sixth week of this course, the prezi individual presentation continued. I watched many amazing prezi presentations from my classmates. One of the prezi presentation was about Halloween. The presenter presented on the symbol of the festival which is commonly used. This symbol which I am talking about is pumpkin. The people will carve the shape of pumpkin and make it look like a scary face with an eerie look. In addition, the presenter explained about lighting bonfires. She also showed us pictures of the lighting bonfires and what it actually means to them. I began to know that Halloween actually bring man meanings to different people. I have always thought that Halloween is merely something which is a norm for certain community. The presenter also talked about apple bobbing and why they do it. It is actually the Roman festival to remember the dead. During this specific time, the Romans remember their goddess who is called Pamona. She was the goddess of dress and fruits. I also watch an interesting video about Halloween at the White House. This video showed Obama and his family celebrating this festival. As a conclusion, the presenter said that Halloween is being celebrated on 31st October every year and many Christian countries celebrate it.

Besides, I watched another interesting presentation. This presentation was about Borage. Borage is a plant which grows in the wild in the Mediterranean. It is being cultivated and used widely. The presenter then explained about the history of Borage. She explained that this plant is from the Boraginaaceae family. It is also known as the bee plant, bee bread and star flower. This unique plant is an old herbal since the Romans time. Moreover, the presenter explained about the cultivation of this plant. I learned that Borage is one of the easiest plant to grow from seed. The seeds needs complete darkness in order to grow. We should always plant Borage in a pot. On the other hand, by listening to this presentation, I was able to note the benefits of this plant. I acquired the knowledge that this plant could restore the adrenal glands to their balance. This plant is also potential to treat nervous condition. As a matter of fact, Borage could also help us with a main problem which is it is able to reduce itch and dryness associated with certain skin disorders.

There was also a presentation about weird cultures and traditions around the world. This presentation is something which is scarring as it really shows some really unusual traditions which people practiced. I noticed that some of this traditions really is not proper. For example in one of the traditions of some Indians, they throw babies from a height to ensure that they grow up healthily. In my opinion, I feel that such an act should not be carried out as the babies might face shock from being thrown from a height. It might affect the baby’s health. In some other traditions, ladies of certain tribe make their neck longer as it is considered beautiful for them. They also believe that they will not be kidnapped by anyone. Although these culture might seem strange, it was once practice at certain places because it is a tradition for some people in the world.

My Friends-essay

Everyone needs their friends as friends are people who understand us without us even telling them how we feel about something. Problems are usually solved easier when we share them with our friends. Our friends can be a great source of inspiration for us. They can make us feel happy and amused with their character. As friends normally are people who is around our age, they tend to understand us better. This is because we feel closer and comfortable with each other and when we are comfortable with each other, we feel like the other party is reliable to fathom our feelings and to keep our secret. Choosing a good friend is important as our friends are usually the people who influence us easily.

My close friends all come from Melaka as I stay there. They are people with fun and joyful personality. We always stick together wherever we go at school. Sometimes we tend to fight but we soon get over it without keeping it in our mind. If we are unhappy about something, we directly discuss it without hiding anything as hiding our feelings can cause a problem to become worse. To be exact, sometimes we need to hide some things and we need to prevent talking directly as it can cause misunderstandings. At times, we need to give it some time for problems to be solved. Friends which easily gets hurt needs to be talked with in a different manner and tone. This is to ensure that misunderstandings do not occur.

Although I have many friends, there is one particular friend whom I am really close with. We knew each other since Form 1 but we never really spoke to each other till Form 3. She is a girl with a good personality. Although she is temperamental at times, she is an understanding person as she could understand my character and she could fathom my thinking. She is a person who gets jealous easily but deep down her heart, she is a wonderful person with a unique personality. I will always remember the times when we were laughing and playing around as if the problems of the world does not matter to us. We could easily get excited and we always ended up screaming and talking about our favorite Korean group. We both are fans f Korean groups and dramas. Therefore, there is always something that sparks up our interest related to Korean groups and we always ended up talking about it.

My friend sits beside me in our classroom. In addition, both of us are librarians and we have our duties on the same day. We also attend tuition classes at the same place. This caused our friendship to grow even stronger as days passed. We never fought more than a day. There were several times when we argued and refused to talk to each other but soon we began talking again after a little while. She is someone who at first glance, someone might think that she is a person who does not really want to talk to them. But then, that is not true at all as she is a friendly person. We both do not really talk to people whom we are not familiar with.

My friends are all important people to me. They always made my day. I feel energized talking to them as they are all full of energetic spirits. They always made me feel that troubles can be solved easily and not being taken to heart. They showed to me that friendship is something which is important and meaningful. A good friendship can make one’s life feel brighter and we will always be joyful as we know someone out there always cares for us deeply even without telling us. Good friends makes us feel that life is much more fun.

My family-essay

My family consists of my father, my mother and my two brothers. We stay at Melaka. My family is a very important unit to me as they are my source of inspiration and confidence. They are the people who I can rely on when I am going through tribulation in my life. They always ensure that I am on the right track and that I am always happy. During my downfall, they always stood firmly beside me never letting go of my hands. Whenever I am having emotional breakdown, they always soothe me. During the first time I went to university, I always felt lonely and it really made me feel so down to stay away from my family. I have always heard people saying that we will only begin to realize the importance of something when we are away from it. These words really described me when I went to start my university life away from home.

Being an only daughter, I often get everything that I wished for. My parents never let me feel that something is lacking. They always ensured that I had the best things in life. During my secondary school life, my parents always bought for me various types of reference books that I needed. They always made sure that I have every book that I needed without complaining about the price of the book. They always reminded me the importance of education in life. I am always advised to be someone who is useful in society who contributes and develop the society. They always have been conscious about their daughter’s well-being. My parents always followed me everywhere and never let me go far from them. Sometimes I felt frustrated when I was not allowed to go out on my own or follow my friends and spend time with friends away from home for a longer amount of time. I felt that I was treated as a kid and it really made me angry and upset.

I soon came to realize that my parents always wanted the best for me. They wanted to protect me and always made sure that I was safe. Whenever they saw bad things happening to girls on television, they became scared and they are really concerned about my safety. Therefore, I listened to them and never go against them when they prohibit me from going out on my own. When I have tuition classes, my dad always came earlier and waits for my class to finish. I am grateful to have such caring parents.

My mother is someone who holds a very deep meaning for me. Without my mother, there will be no meaning for me to live. My mother is the queen of my heart. Many of my friends were amazed to see that I need my mother every time. I even need to hear my mother’s voice before I sleep. My mother was always there for me when I fall. I have always assumed my mother as an angel who was being sent by God to me. She is the best thing in my life that has ever happened to me. As I do not have and sister, my mother was always willing to hear all my problems and secrets. She is a good friend and she always advised me on many things. I never felt awkward or strange to share my problems with my mother. She keeps my secrets well and never told them to anyone. I will never forget the moments when I was down and she was always beside me. When I cried, she always lend me a shoulder and she cried with me. I am a girl who frequently hurts herself accidentally so she was always cautious of my safety. She always made sure that I am in a safe environment.

My dad is a loving dad. Although he sometimes does not show it, I always knew that he always loved all of my family members a lot. Unlike my mom, my dad has a temper which I have to admit that I also have. Deep down his heart, he is a caring person. He is sometimes cheerful and he always brings my family out for dinner. I still remember that he always brought us to visit many places and also to explore many things. He taught us about the outside world and the danger that awaits us if we are not cautious of our safety out there. My dad always bought me everything I asked for. Since I was a little girl, my dad always could not bear to see my crying or in pain. When I fell sick, he could not look at me getting injection and he looked away. My dad always followed me when I am out so when I first went to university, I felt really stranded as if something was off. This is because I became too dependent on my parents who always were with me wherever I went. At first, I became panicked till I felt like crying and running back home but I remember the motive I came to study. I want to be someone in life and give my mother a wonderful life and also protect my dad at his old age. To do that, I need to study.

My elder brother is a good source of motivation for me. He is a smart student who excels in his studies. He is a scholarship recipient. He studies at America now. He always encouraged me to study well and to never give up in life no matter what problems life may present us. In addition, my brother always told me that everyone has their own goodness and is smart in their own unique way. He always told me to cherish anything that I am doing. He said that I have to choose a field of study which I am really interested in as it will motivate me to do better and to improvise myself.

My younger brother is a playful and caring person. He is an understanding person even though he is younger than me. He is way taller than me as he is really active in sports. He is currently studying in university. He always protected me when I am out of home. He follows me when I wonder off alone in shopping mall. No matter I always fight with him, I really love him to bits as he is a wonderful person.

Myself-essay

A girl who likes to talk and crack jokes with others only if she knows them well. This statement exactly fits my personality. I really like to speak and know more about others to the point that I even considered taking Communication as my major when I further my studies. That’s who I am. I am Sharvenaa d/o Silvadas. My hometown is Ipoh, Perak but I stay in Malacca. Though I was born in Ipoh but I really like and feel comfortable being in Malacca as I had spent most of my time here. Malacca is really my comfort zone as I really love being here. I have already turned nineteen this year. I have an elder brother and a younger brother.

I am currently studying in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris in Tanjong Malim, Perak. I am currently doing my Diploma in English in this university. I have a deep passion in language and also business. I have plans to further my degree in language and also in business. I really would like to complete my Ph.D. before I get married as my studies will not be disturbed or affected because marriage requires many commitments. I would want to be a professional lecturer to stand as someone useful towards the society and even my family.

I am really passionate in completing my education as I would really like to repay my mother’s kindness towards me throughout  my life. During my fall in certain stage in my life, my mother was always there for me to show me love and was my pillar of support. I always believed that my mother is an angel who was given to me by God. Therefore, only with education will I able to support my mother and make her live in comfort. My hobby and favorite pastime is reading mystery and also books which is connected to business. Though I do like romance genre books such as Twilight a lot, books which contain mystery and books which is business-related is still very interesting to me. These types of books really pique my interest.

I also love listening to music as it soothes my feelings and enables me to think clearly. I like the way it clears the haze in my mind when I am worried and feeling down of something. It even makes me feel inspired by the lyrics at times. This is a type of valuable source of inspiration for me. In addition, I also like to read, hear or watch ghost stories or movies. Though it does freak me out at times, I feel that it is fun reading or watching scary stories.

I am a soft spoken person as I do not like to speak with a high pitch to others. I do have temper which is hard to control at times and I try hard in controlling them as it is impolite to lose my cool in front of others and to snap at others. Whenever I have an outburst of temper, I would prefer to be alone for a while as it is a best method to prevent misunderstanding and also to prevent implicating pain for others.

Being alone sometimes also helps me to shape my character and mold my behavior to a better one. Moreover, I am someone who likes things or subjects which is historical. I also like the myths a lot as it is interesting and unique in its own way. For example, I like to explore and know more things about the Greek gods and goddesses. Thus, I learnt and done some small research myself to know more and explore the myth as it seems to be very interesting and unique to me. I personally feel that its knowledgeable and fun to explore many new things so I like exploring myths which stands out because I feel that it is unique.
